I would say it's not okay because they are the role model to lead the organization so they should get more salary than anyone else. If they don't get paid, there would not be charity organization and people can't help or encourage needy to help.  It is because they need to put effort not only their stragtegies and also the time.  The corporation in charity has a lot of responsible to work on to make things work so they better pay off.

Essay#2: Idea Draft

Essay#2: Idea Draft

The story about "The Power of Hope" convincing us that everyone can achieve what they are aiming for because all you need to be hopeful. Especially in the poor countries like Kibera where crimes, garages and abusing are so many and Kennedy Odede were grown up with his mother who didn't want him and wanted to kill him at birth. However, he ran away from home and started his new life. In this story, there are combination of categories going on like poverty, hope and education. This boy who didn't go to elementary, middle and high school however he ignored all the negativity that can destroy the hope and keep going.

What are the internal limitation of poverty?
What is his motivation?
Without any support, can he be still fulfill his aim or successful?
Are the Poverty, hope and education can affect on individual grits or outside resource support?

Reflection on Essay Blog

1.    I chose to analyze the text since the pictures are not that much and I couldn't relate with the      pictures. My analysis is about higher education in United States and Zimbabwe.
2.   It's not that challenging because it is shorter so of course it's better for us to spend less time writing 3 or 4 pages. But, I wrote almost three pages for the essay#1. and I hope the future essay will be like 2 pages requirement. But there was challenging for me to choose which story is fit together to flow my main ideas about higher education.
3.   I would say it's little difficult for me to process to revise. I would rather print copies to revise for my essay so my classmates can write down the comments next to where they don't understand. So. it's easier to make sense to me when I revise or edit to my essay.
4.   So What ? it's important to include in the essay because the reader can understand what we connect with the author that we analyze and why the author matter to us. Also, to explain SO What? the reader can know the deeper understanding of the writer.  Like essay#1, based on what I chose to analyze, in the conclusion I wrote like why the author's overall message mean to us?
5. I still struggling how to post my essay on the blog with the link. Overall reflection, I learned from the author is that we need to take action first in order to become what we want.

When A Path Appears, Opportunities Follow
In the book “A Path Appears” by the winning journalist Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn wrote about creating chances to deliver opportunities to change for better. The book was published in September 23, 2014. The first thing I progress before I read the book, I looked the summary from the back and the author’s background for better understanding. The introduction of Path Appears, grabbed my attention because there has little short stories about people who made it change and impact on themselves or for the community. The way I annotate for the novel, I used the sticky notecards to write the main points or supporting points. Moreover, I wrote the short summary of the stories at the end of the chapter. I have read up to Chapter 4, the authors keep continuing telling us the different stories about turning into the biggest positive changes in the end. Although this book has many stories about higher education however, the main central theme is encouraging people to make a difference in the world or in their community.
In Chapter 4 “ The Land of Opportunity- If you Catch Them Early” talks about we can create the differences of the child’s life by interacting with them appropriately with nurses and parents in early childhood. If parent desires their children to have a better life, both parents required to take action to influence them in their early days.  For example, the story about Professor David Olds, who invented the program of Nurse - Family Partnership, for children to have a better future life by training them at their beginning of their childhood. The author stated that "If we miss that opportunity at the front end, it can be far more difficult and costly to try to undo the damage later"(66). According to the authors, Kristof and WuDunn was trying to say, the opportunity for the kids is based on their parent how they interact with them in their early childhood. This story talks about parents can make a difference to their child life and higher education in their future.
The founder of this program, Olds believes that parents who wait for their children until the age of four to send to preschool are wrong. The reason is why because there is no differences which lead to drop out school early and will not be succeed in the future. For example, the author restates what David Olds said “Olds was blunt: I don’t think this program makes a difference, and we won’t know with available data. But I think we can design an intervention that will make a difference and that can be evaluated so we’ll know whether it works” (62). In this quote, Olds claims that his invention of sending nurses to child’s parents home as regular basis to check up can make the differences for child’s future. Therefore, in the end of the chapter 4, I annotated that David Olds can change differences not only for children’s higher education and also their lives.
In the introduction from Path Appears, Rachel Beck who is only nine years old started to raise money to help build a well through charity: water. She believed that water is one of the essential commodity in human life and people world wide lacking clean water. After her ninth birthday, unfortunately she confronted to the bad situation in a car accident with her family. Her aim was to raise three hundred dollars to help the charity: water. However, people started to donate money through the charity: water website which raised up to ten thousand dollars in the end. In the Marie Forleo’s interview with Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, WuDunn claims “That hope is like a path in the country: At first there is nothing and then because people walk this walk this way again and again, a path appears”. Based on this quote, WuDunn stated that first there was no fund for the charity: water which means there was nothing unless Rachel aimed to raise 300 dollars for her birthday. Even though she couldn’t raise 300 dollars on her birthday, afterward people started to take that path to donate money. In the end, Rachel can raise up to ten thousand dollars. Thus, I concluded by annotating that Rachel made a difference in improving health and created the opportunity to feel a hope in her community.
The main theme of “Path Appear” is creating opportunity to make differences in higher education and better health by telling us stories.

It is important to know the author background before writing the essay because we can predict and analyze the author's main purpose for the book. If we don't know any, we will not understand their messages.

Essay #1: Idea Draft

Essay #1: Idea Draft

- I am planning to analysis the text and annotation that I did when I was reading the Path Appear.
- This book is basically about encouraging people to take opportunity and make it change.
- Probably I will write about the author background in my introduction. For my thesis, I will focus on the quote that I like which is " We can do better if we put our hearts and mind to it" (16) with that quote I will connect with my reading and writing process. Like as the time goes passed by, we can also write better if we put our hearts and mind to make it change for better.
- For my evidences; "We decide that our focus should be on expanding opportunity worldwide because talent is universal but opportunity is not" (10) Based on this quote, we should take learning  as an opportunity to take action to become academic reader or writer over time.
"The benefits of outreach flow in both directions. It's not only the Isemondes who gain, but also those who help"(12)
- Just like the story about Tererai Trent and Professor David Olds who invented the program for children to have a better future life by training them at their beginning of their childhood.
"if we miss that opportunity at the front end, it can be far more difficult and costly to try to undo the damage later"(66).

- While I was annotations the Path Appear, I used the stick notecards to write down the short summary and the main ideas
- My annotation will be helpful when I am writing the essay by using as a example or prove my argument of my thesis statement. I think the rest of the book will be still different little interesting people who made the difference in the world.
- The main argument of the author is giving message about we should take action when there is an opportunity, don't miss out.

This book is basically encourages people to make the world better. One story that stood out to me is Rashida's clubfoot. Because of Shoshana Kline donated $250 to CURE. With that money she can change the people's life with clubfoot. She changed their hope and future.  One quote that I like is "We can do better if we put our hearts and mind to it"(16) Lottery of birth is really depend on the person's environment and their destiny. We can't make it change the status but we can make it better change.
