Thesis Statement should be placed at the beginning of the essay and it should be clearly defined, focused and supportive.  There are 3 steps to formulate on working thesis statement; misinterpretation model, gap model and modification model. what it means by that misinterpretation model is correcting, gap model is making a claim of value and modification model  is what others have said. All three models will help us to create a better and stronger thesis statement. Context in the essay is important too because this is the writer's claim so the readers can know what the writers up to. In conclusion, we should recap the thesis statement in the first sentence of the last paragraph to tell the readers that we gonna end this essay soon and remind our main points again to the readers.

"A working thesis is valuable in the early stages of writing because it helps you read selectively, in the same way that your issue- based question guides your inquiry"(100).

it is saying that we should have our thesis statement first so that we can lead to other open perspective later for the paper.

"A variation on the gap model also occurs when a writer suggests that although something might appear to be the case, a closer looks reveals something different" (102)

for example, although thesis statement is like you also have negative effect, but you still need think other option is more likely agree with that.

The assignment for Research Paper is coming up so this article will tell us how to research like an expert. But first, we need to know what we want to research about? It has to be something we are interested in and related with us. So that, when we write we can also put pathos with our experiences which makes it sound interesting. When we are researching, it is so important to know our websites are reliable or not. For example; wikipedia; this is really great source to start off when we don't know anything about the topic. But we can't trust wikipedia because anyone can view and edit on that website which can be misconcept.  Second, we need to DISTINGUISH BETWEEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOURCES. Primary sources are eyewitness like interviews. Secondary sources are something we analysis to the primary sources. Another thing we need to distinguish is between POPULAR AND SCHOLARLY SOURCES. Popular sources are like USA Today; (newspaper and magazines). Scholarly sources are some experts who write about in their study. But they don't get to publish until PEER REVIEW evaluate with their articles. So, first start with the popular sources when we research but later we should use scholarly sources. Third, when we evaluate for internet sources 1) check the author, organization of the site. 2) ask whats the purpose for that site 3) check the informations are reliable

The issue I chose from the book is improving health & education. Especially for the girl's health like providing sanitary pads will help girls to come to school everyday. Moreover, some girls are experiencing menstrual cramps during period so people should provide pain killer to them in order to stay focus in the school. I think this is important issue because every girls should have clean sanitary pads in order to feel confident while they are going to school or even with the family. It is because most girls think that this is nasty thing.

Essay#3 Idea Draft

Essay#3 Idea Draft

I am thinking to research about promoting health problems like sanitary pads for girls and women in poor countries. I feel like this problem is so important because women cannot avert this since this is the natural biological things that happen to every girl. Most girls are ashamed of themselves and missing school because they couldn't afford sanitary pads.

Organization:  Scharph's Organization, Sustainable Health Enterprises (SHE)
           - designs affordable banana fiber sanitary pads in Rwanda to improve feminine hygiene and increase school attendance.

Questions: How do we solve this problem? Manufacture cheap pads and provide them?
Does giving out sanitary pads can make girls to stay in the school? What other factors can cause girls missing school due to mensural period?

Quotes:
"Scharpf visited Rwanda, where the cheapest pads commercially available were Chinese-made and cost $1.10 for a pack of ten"(288).
"The traditional model of making a difference was conservative, passive and risk-averse" (288).
"Our view is that pads won't eliminate the problem but may mitigate it"(290).

Academic writing is the understanding of what we read or know to respond the ideas to the others. It is also like a thoughtful idea which comes from the other conversations and writes it into academic style. "Empathy" is one of the ways to understand other's perspectives of what they believe and think. There are steps to joining an Academic Conversation. 1) Be receptive to the ideas of others.2) Be respectful 3) Engage with new perspectives 4) Be flexible to be open mind. By doing this way, we can expand our thinking to ask more questions.  First thing, we need to do is find the issues that stand out to you and interesting to you. Then, focus on a specific issue to organize your inquiry and develop an argument, think about your audience. After thinking about what is our research, try to come out with the questions that relevant to our paper. Like why education is important? Do people who live in poor countries can afford their children in education, if they don't, then why? By asking these why, how, what questions can help us to lead an argument or belief to write for our research paper.

" These two concerns- with inclusion and with exclusion - helped focus the student's inquiry" (88).
Like what kind of question we should address for a specific issue and what kind of question we shouldn't address?

There is a story about Yurledy who got raped by her own uncle and talked about this to her grandmother. But her grandmother didn't take this serious so she went to the police station and told about what happened to her. even though she survied from her uncle due to her mother's sickness, she had to go back to doing bad thing which is selling drugs. I enjoyed reading this story because I feel that this kind of rape should be serious and help the girls who are domestic violence and rape. "we can make a difference by speaking up" (311)

Essay#2 help us to think about questioning more in depth to make sure us to understand well. The issue I think about is how poverty and education can impact on people's inner mindset. Like when they don't have money for living, there will be lots of negativity outcome such as hopelessness, health and social communication.
